I feel that the religious views on masturbation are wrong, as our maker gave us the ability to do so, why not use it?

I am somewhat atheist, and umm it doesn't say much.

Religious views on masturbation do NOT affect me, as I started masturbating before I knew that religions said to do contrary. Obviously it had no physical effects, and I felt morally good so it didn't change my opinion.

I am a Christian, and I do not believe that the Bible says one way or the other. If God didn't want us to masturbate, He would have told us so. He was definatly explicit in warning us about other sins. I belong to a Mennonite church, and I know several other guys my age that jack off regularly. So religion I do not believe has any thing to do with masturbation.

I don't think that masturbation is necessarily a bad thing. Some religions would say that it is but I think that is more to keep people from doing it too much. I have no religion currently. I don't let the religious views affect me, I'm more concerned with biological needs.

p.s. Some guy a while ago posted how different religions would answer the question. Where did you get that from, I saw it in a book somewhere but now I can't find it again, please post again if you remember where to find it or what the name of the book is.

Personally, I think religious perspectives regarding masturbation is/ARE SICK!!!

A person/ANY Person will do things, especially sexual, regardless of others opinions OR condemnations. Gays will still live together even IF they can NOT marry officially; they will either stay ...in the closet OR be open, and they WILL have sex with each other regardless of the mainstream/status-quo opinions. So too about masturbation: repreatedly recent and more informed medical doctors support that masturbation is both healthy and often practiced by MOST people; it's better than going out there and raping some innocent female.

I find it disgusting that people must condemn the practices of OTHER people(s) because of their lack of knowledge, ignorance, of those who they condemn. Regardless of mainstream opinions.

Religious perspectives are SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to point out to all that are interpreting the verse dealing with Onan and the term spilled his seed on the ground as talking about Onan masturbating, that it is referring to Onan withdrawing before he ejaculated.

As for me, I am going to convert to Modern Orthodox Judaism, a religious denomination of Judaism that does belief that masturbation is minor sin. I do feel guilt usually after I do it, and I'm currently trying to quit.

I am active in my religion and know that extra marrital sex is forbidden and I don't fool around on my wife any more. I also know the official doctrine frowns on being any thing but heterosexual. I cannot help what I am. I know several factors figured in how I developed and I do like women. I like male sex slightly less than male to female sex but still am attracted in a sexual way to some males.

Religion is invented by humans as the structure to surround and support their spiritual beliefs and is therefore inherently flawed. I could discuss the validity of canonical justification for and against masturbation from my own Christian perspective, but what's the point in that? There are other web sights for that and I really don't think my views will make any difference to anyone who might read them here.

I think this question would be better phrased What impact does masturbation have on your spiritual life? Addressing the question that way, I believe one should live according to one's convictions. If a person is overcome by guilt because of masturbation, than clearly their conscience is unresolved about the issue. From there one must determine the source of the guilt, whether it comes from spiritual conviction, or just negative religious, social, or familial stigma. If one is faced with true spiritual conviction, than that is something they must resolve with God. Perhaps a healthier spiritual goal for that person would be to practice the discipline of abstinence. If the cause is some superficial stigma, however, I think that is something one should strive to overcome. Nobody should let the fear of falling short of the expectations of others rob them of living their life to the fullest.

I am a Christian with a minor degree in Biblical Studies, and I have yet to see any scripture that condemns masturbation specifically. I masturbate regularly and feel it is a safe and healthy sexual outlet. I do, however, think there is some gray area, morally, when you consider the issue of lust, since the Bible does have some rather specific things to say on that topic. I have heard convincing arguments going both ways; some pastors, and spiritual leaders have told me that masturbation and lust are one in the same and must be avoided. On the other hand, I once had a very trusted spiritual mentor advise me to masturbate a lot to alleviate the pressure to have premarital sex with a girl I was dating at the time. His advice didn't work, but that's beside the point.

Ultimately, I have come to the conclusion, for myself, that if masturbation becomes more important than it should be, than it's time to cut back. If I'm using it as an escape from other responsibilities, or it's effecting my life in a negative way, i.e. loosing sleep, than that's not healthy. But that can be the same for lots of things besides masturbation, like watching movies, reading books, chatting with friends online, or over indulging in video games or any kind of hobby. For me it's not so much a religious matter as much as it is a life management issue. Masturbation, regardless of what one may believe religiously, should, like all sexual practices, be recreational, and not obsessive or all consuming. I believe sexuality is a valuable gift endowed by our creator that, like all good gifts, we must be good stewards of.

It's against my religion to jerk off, I was cought a few times my my older brother and he told me I was not allowed to jerk off but I ignored him, then one day my father walked in on my and I was in a lot of trouble. By the next week I was fitted for a chastity belt, and only let out once ever two months for cleaning, then was milked (so I would have NO stimulatuon)by my older brother. This went on until I was 24 and even after my father died, my brother was the one in control of me. So when I was getting married off,I thought that would be the end of it but not. On my wedding day I asked my brother to take the belt off and he looked at me and said not yet. Before we went to the wedding my brother asked to talk to me and my bride, he sat us down and explained to my bride that I wore a chastity belt to keep be from masterbation, and said that he was giving her the keys, and it would be her discretion to keep me locked in or not. I could not belive this was happening, but I thought what bride would want there husband locked up. Mine, she keps me in it all the time and I have to earn time out, this is a crazy life

I am a Catholic and I asked my confessor if masturbating is a sin and he said no because my Doc. advised me to ejaculate 3 times a week for prostate health. I'm happy and comfortable with this decision, alto I only jerk off 2 times a week because 3 times a week is almost every other day and it's too much for me. I am not goin' to get married again so I jack off with my married neighbor. I'm 39. He understands the situation.

I'm a 22 year old Evangelical Christian, and I think masturbation is a sin if you watch porn or dwell on impure fantasies (about having sexual relations with anyone else than your legally married wife). Jesus categorized this as sexual immorality. The Bible explains that as an abomination to God.

It's a private matter, between you and God, and He looks to the heart. Sometimes, we just need to get it out of our system. If you're out of control, I think masturbation is better than having sex before marriage.

To make masturbation a habit, something you do on a regular basis, can be unhealthy for your mind. A lot of people run to masturbation - selfish self-pleasing - instead of dealing with their problems of intimacy or low self-esteem.

You might be having a problem with masturbation? Check out www.christiananswers.net and search for masturbation at their website. These views are not popular. But popularity has nothing to do with being right. We live in the end of times, our Lord Jesus is coming back for us soon. Let's give our lives to Him 100%- no more excuses to sin.

By the way, I married a wonderful Christian girl in January, and my masturbation days are definently over:)

I believe that religion uses guilt to control behavior, and what better way to make people feel guilty than to teach that masturbation is a sin. Most often christians point to Onan spilling his seed, but Onan did not masturbate, he pulled out. The sin was to disobey God and not make his dead brother's wife pregnant. There is nothing in The Bible that addresses masturbation as a sin. It is all a matter if interpretation, and a stretch at that.

The views of churches on masturbation are similar to many, many wrongs and rights. They all have more to do with the church or denomination that with religion--that is our fundamental belief system. We were taught in Sunday School (fairly middle of the road protestant denomination) that masturbation was wrong. It's funny because they didn't say it was SIN--just wrong. BUT, dancing and playing cards were in the same category. By the time I got to my junior year of college, dancing and cards were no longer wrong. Nobody said It's now OK to masturbate. It just wasn't mentioned again. SO, I figure they think it's not wrong anymore. No, I'd have to say there is no effect on me by church views on masturbation. They did, however, make me feel guilty as a youngster- -there were a LOT of things to make us feel guilty (that was a long time ago).

r we seriously expected to believe that a priest in the catholic church who cant ever marry wont be jackin off as often as he can. im a catholic and when i was about 15 and had been masturbating for a few years i decided to go to confession and tell all. to my surprise the priest said 'im so fed up with all these lads telling me they wank, you'll just go away and do it again so if u ever do stop which believe me u wont come back', i was a bit turned on thinking my priest probably wanks and alot of the lads in my church did too so i went down a track near the church and jerked off. unknown to me the curate was walking up behind me. he grabbed hold of me and turned me round and said 'come to this spot same time next week when youre 16 and i'll help u out. i went back the following week and had my first and only gay experience- jacking a man of the cloth and getting a blow job back.

I feel all religions have used masturbation as a form of control over men. I was raised Catholic and of course I was told it was wrong. They never acknowledged it was a natural thing to do. Just sinfull. I never believed it! I thought God gave you this to enjoy it, not to tempt you with it. There are too many other vices that hurt far too many other people for masturbation to be bad. I don't see how the pleasuring of oneself is bad or sacriligous.

Ok, let's face the facts here fellas.... Do you feel guilty doing this??? Well, come on, do you remember the first time you ever did it? You felt guilty didn't you. I'm reminded of Adam and Eve in the Bible. When Adam and Eve sinned, they went and hid themselves from God. Why? Because of guilt. Eating the forbidden fruit gave Adam and Eve the ability to judge and discern right and wrong. No one had to tell you it was wrong to masterbate, you just knew. I never had ANYONE tell me it was wrong, I never had ANYONE tell me it was immoral, I never had ANYONE tell me it was a sin... But the first time I did it, I KNEW IT WAS A SIN. Sometimes it's easy to believe what you want to believe. I'd rather believe it wasn't wrong, but in my heart I know it is. And if something as sinful as the heart can tell the difference, shame on me for not realizing it when I was younger. I have struggled with this issue for many years. I have searched scripture to confirm or deny my feelings on the issue. While I find little in the way of addressing the issue directly, I find NOTHING that condones it either. Oh, and just because a sin isn't mentioned DIRECTLY doesn't mean that it isn't mention catagorically. For example, the Bible never says that copying and selling a copywrited DVD is wrong does it? Nope, but it does say that stealing is. Just because God doesn't spell it out in such plain language that a blind, deaf, mute can understand it doesn't mean that he didn't address the issue. In the end, for those that need clarification, no amount of clarification on the subject can be given, no matter how many times we are told thou shalt not commit adultery and if a man looks on a woman to lust after her, he has committed adultery with her in his heart already. Or warnings from Paul to gird up the loins of your mind... Obstain from youthful lusts warnings agains immorality in general. In the end, we know that it is wrong and we have to repent, seek deliverance and pray to be made strong in our weakness. The Bible says that Jesus is coming back for a Bride without spot or blemish. If the Church is the Body of Christ, as mentioned in scripture, ask yourself this... WHAT WOULD JESUS DO??? I think that although you will not like the answer, you will know what it is.

As best that I can understand, GOD gave me a penis to enjoy...certainly to create babies...but, also, to have fun. Otherwise, why do my hands enjoy stroking my penis and why does it enjoy being stroked. Masturbation (and oral sex and hand jobs by wife) does not prevent babies......very possible it generates more.

I have tons of oppertunities to actually mess around, but you could'nt put a gun to my head, and get me to do that while i'm married!i just masterbate. as of right now, it's been a few days since i've done it. I've once again thrown out my collection of porno dvd's, and a magazine.every time I see a very big butt on a female, I just have to stare. it's hard not too. even if she's 55.if her butt is round, and huge, I have to look!! I may be admitting to much, but I know this is not right with God. I pray that I stop having the urge to do this, so God can fulfill his will for my life.

Jackin' off is good. Some religions have used it as a near-perfect guilt inducer, and when you're guilty of some sin, you need to get forgiven. That's done by going to church and grovelling and giving money. That's crazy: Jackin' off is almost like beathing. J/O is good, but best not done in public, and like most other sexual issues, one should pick the time & place to discuss it. J/O is good, religions that say otherwise are wrong. And manipulative.

People try to say that masturbation is a sin as Om spilled his seed on the ground and God punished him. (The Roman Catholic Church use the same passage to say that contraception is evil) However, when you read the passage in context you see that God actually punished him for disobedience, not for masturbating.

A lot of Church doctrine and customs steam from political motivations. When there where only a few Christians and infant mortality was high, the church needed the Christians to have lots of babies to increase the Christian population therefore it promoted the idea that masturbation, contraception and homosexuality was evil… if it distracted people from the task of making babies and increasing the Parish then it was evil.

I think it's dangerous to leave no room for masturbation. I'm an Episcopalian but grew up in Catholoic schools, where I was taught that masturbation was flat out wrong.

First, it's a misreading of the biblical texts, which have to do with arcane rules about a man providing offspring for his dead brother's wife. Second, the all-or-nothing approach is unrealistic, leaving no room in the official understanding of sex and faith for any sexual expression outside of marriage.

As a result, people who have any sort of sexuality at all outside of marriage have no way to integrate it into their religious beliefs. And for people who have various sorts of sexual relationships, it means the church is basically silent. Since that includes one's self- relationship in masturbation, it leads to limits on being able to learn about your own body as it relates to others as well, including any future spouse.

I'm a lifelong Christian, but as far as I'm concerned, reducing religion to sex is ridiculous. If the two great commandments are to love God and love your neighbor, then it should be a simple matter to reconceive of sexual issues as a matter of mutual respect. If the two partners are on the same wavelength and honest with one another about what they want, sexual relationships should be honored by the church as the most intimate way one can connect with, and on one level or another, love the neighbot.

I think religion can not regulate masturbation. Even when a religion says that masturbating is a sin, it is never and nowhere mentioned in the commandments. Adultery is a sin because you are hurting your partner who is loving you, and it is mentioned so in the bible. But when masturbating you are hurting nobody not even your one body because masturbating is a natural sexual activity your body is asking for.

I am a non-denominational Christian and when I was younger I actually struggled with this question because I had heard that masturbation was a sin. So I did asked a minister who is a close family friend whether or not he though it was wrong. It shocked me when he said that when he was younger he did it often and found the act of masturbation itself is not sinful. He encouraged me to seek out the answers myself through prayer and reading the scripture. When I found that the bible clearly defines almost every conceivable sexual sin but does not mention masturbation at all I was convinced that there was nothing wrong with it. Now I sleep like a baby (right after I rub one off). Hey, why would God give us that natural biological instinct if it was wrong?

I have found that all things that God has given to us has a positive and a negative side. Water for instance is used for many positive and useful purposes but it can also destroy through floods and drowning for example. So masturbation is good in as much as we use it responsibly, not to harm others or ourselves. If it becomes a habit that hinders us from leading a prouctive life then of course this is a problem. However, once used reasonably adn as just one aspect of a normal healthy, well-balanced life , then it is probably a good and healthy practice.

Religioun has caused many people to have a negative view of not just masturbation but sex on a whole. Many religions, e.g. Catholicism makes people view masturbation and sex as something nasty. But even the Bible says that nothing that God has created is unclean. So the guit trips that religions cause actually does more harm than good in most cases leading people to develop unhealthy habits as I mentioned above.

I used to feel really guilty about masturbation when I was younger because of my strong religious upbringing but now I dont feel that way anymore. Thank God...

I've had to say other for Your Sexuality Description because I found it totally confusing. I mean, gay means EXACTLY the same thing as homosexual, & what do you mean by in-between seeing that you also have bisexual?

How do I feel about religious views on mb? Well, if they are supportive ones, that's GOOD. Any religious views condemning mb are barbaric, because you can't help having a need for sexual relief anymore than you can't getting thirsty, because God made us to have these appetites. I can't stand the thought of the endless self-hatred that all those young anti-mb Christian men go through.

I'm not affiliated with any church, though I'd be most at home in the Anglican Church. It's up to God as to whether I'm a Christian still, because of the many fierce questions I've had in the last 10 years on various topics. Eg. (1) If God really loved us, He would never have allowed Satan to come to planet Earth; there are many dead stars & planets that the devil could have been forced to stay near. (2) Jesus promised that whatever you ask for in my name, it shall be granted to you. So why then have two Christians I've known for years, both died of cancer in their 40's? Both had many Christians in their churches praying for their full recovery. Obviously the bible has errors, or Jesus lied.

I'm also anti-conservative, but not a leftwing radical, in my views on : govt. welfare for the low income people, Islam, bringing back national service, etc. And I'm a male who would love to have a younger male lover. So I'm not affected by religious views on mb.

I'm 38 years old and Baptist. I stated masturbating when I was 11. I masturbate daily.

I feel many religious views have good health basis. Many of the teaching about sexual impurity, of the Baptists kept sexually transmitted diseases from becoming epidemics. According to the belief I was taught, it is the sin of the fantasy that is wrong. Since not fantasizing when masturbating is near impossible, masturbation is a sin. The Bible speaks often about the Greeks (of the day) and equates sexual impurity to them and their life style. The Greeks (of that time) were sexually active in various aspects. I have come to except that I masturbate and I will do so for as long as I can and want. Do I agree with the Baptist teaching about masturbation? No.

I think it's harder to live up to religious doctrines implying, don't masturbate with procreative powers when religious teachings are so inconsistent about the seriousness of masturbation. Perhaps we should do our best to comply with God's will through our conscience until we know Him better.

The confusion of religious views about masturbation affects how I feel about where I stand with God, but I receive some comfort knowing His atonement influences my desire to improve. I am trying to sharpen my conscience by working on the disparities that influence my selfishness, not just the impurity itself.

Well I masterbated and looked at porn for many years, now I've recentnly come to accept christ in my life and I attend a non- denominational christian church. While I have not presented the issue to my paster or any of the other brothers in my church, i have only this to point, I believe that once you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, the spirit of Christ dwells within you. You make your faith stronger through Worship, Fellowship and reading the word. No as far as the scriptures say, review CEV 1 Cor 6:18-19Don't be immoral in matters of sex. That is a sin against your own body in a way that no other sin is. You surely know that your body is a Temple and is where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. Personally, I love to Masterbate and have tried to restrain myself because I feel guilty about it and if i'm gonna sin I might as well have pre-marital sex thats more enjoyable. Either way, if I do practice it, I try not to have any lustful images in my mind, cause that is immoral.

Sexuality Description: Virgin
Survey Category: Male Masturbation

I was raised in a strict religious home where sexual matters were not spoken about in a positive way if at all. I learned to masturbate by accident and was not sure what happened until much later. I thought I had hurt myself. Virginity was expected until marriage by both genders. I was told that my wife could tell if I was a virgin or not and would hate me for it if I wasn't. How she would determine this was never spelled out. I believe my family believed sex was dirty from their religion. Its a strange religion to my way of thinking: One is to be a virgin before marriage and this includes masturbation. Then once married one is to have as many children as the family can support. So, from no sex whatever to large amounts of it.

I have learned to sneek away from my family and jerk off in private. One time my mother found a little towel into which I had been jerking off and hiding under the bed. She was ready to cry but I told a lie: I said I had had a runny nose during the night.

I think religion has a duty to educate about sex in all its ways. To encourage guilt and shame over such a thing as masturbation is wrong. If I did not have to masturbate I would not. I want to enter marriage a total virgin. I think this is not only impossible but undesirable. Holy Church teaches otherwise.

Sometimes I wonder if I can ever have sex with a woman. The Church and family have taught me sex is so evil before marriage that I think I will find it evil after.

The Church in question is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

To many who are reading this, what I have just stated may seem rather contradictory, but I would like to explain that it really isn't. God is the one who created the human body so that the genitals are conveniently placed so that masturbation is both convenient and easy. Did He do this to tempt us to evil? No, on the contrary, God says that He does not lead us into temptation, as He states in the Lord's Prayer. Rather, God placed our genitals in such a convenient place because He knew that we human beings mature sexually before they are emotionally mature enough to marry and thereby legitimately have sexual intercourse. He even made it so that the pinnacle of our sexual urge occurs during our youthful years while we are yet teenagers. Does He get a kick out of arranging things this way and then torturing us by forbidding the act of masturbation? Is this the kind of God we have? Or is He a loving and merciful God - providing a legitimate outlet for our sexual urges - a way of escape from the stresses of our natural bodily functions, so that illegitimate sexual activities are not necessary in order to relieve our sexual tension. Many of man's religions have their own list of forbidden sexual activities - including masturbation - but it's not really what man says that matters. That which God reveals to us in scripture is what really matters. He has given us His written word so that we can look into this for ourselves. A good place to begin is where He actually gives us a list of forbidden sexual activities, along with guidance on dealing with sexual activities that He intended for us to experience and enjoy. This list of forbidden forms of sexual indulgence is found in Leviticus 18 and - for emphasis - is repeated in Leviticus 20. Those forbidden activities are sexual intercourse with various close relatives, adultery which is having sex outside of your own marriage, homosexuality, and having sex with an animal. The forbidding of adultery also implies that we are to abstain from fornication which is sex before getting married. This is confirmed in I Thessalonians 4:3 as well as many other places in the Bible. Amongst the forbidden sexual activities mentioned, you may have noticed that one very popular activity - one that has been indulged in by practically every human being that has ever lived - was missing from this list of forbidden sexual activities. That, of course, is masturbation - the activity that allows sexual release without violating any of God's sexual restrictions. For further insight, God even tells us how He does, in fact, categorize the activity of masturbation. He doesn't leave it as a guessing game for us. This may be found in Leviticus 15:16-18. He clearly tells us that a man's emission of semen falls into the same category as legitimate sexual intercourse between a married man and woman. The man who has an emission of semen is to thoroughly wash both himself and any garments which were touched by the semen. In the same way, any sexual intercourse between a man and his wife that results in an emission of semen is to result in both the man and his wife thoroughly washing themselves so they may once again become clean. As we can see, both masturbation and legitimate sexual intercourse are described as acceptable human sexual releases as long as proper hygiene is practiced afterwards. Both men and women develop pent up sexual tensions as their bodies develop, so by extension, it may be deduced that masturbation for women is also acceptable. In God's word it is easy to see that doing what is acceptable in God's eyes results in favorable physical blessings of all sorts. Doing what is evil in God's eyes results in negative physical consequences of all sorts. This principle is most easily seen in such places as Deuteronomy 28. Using this principle, I wanted to determine if masturbation led to favorable or unfavorable physical results. In the process of my online research, it was determined that men who refrained from frequent masturbation during their youthful years were much more prone to developing severe prostate problems in later life including prostate cancer. Frequent masturbation also prevented the scourge of prostatitus. This is a condition where the prostate becomes extremely inflamed and painful due to being engorged with excessive amounts of semen that are not properly ejaculated. Men who masturbated five or more times per week in their youthful years experienced much healthier sexual organs in their later years. Emotionally and spiritually, masturbation relieves sexual tensions that would otherwise influence a man or woman to give into the seductions of another person that would lead to illegitimate sexual activity. God provided masturbation for our benefit - not for our harm. When I was a young man, I was amongst those who were led to believe that masturbation was sin and should not be indulged in. As a young man, my body naturally manufactured a great deal of semen. Without ejaculation, I found that my sexual desires could not be ignored. After refraining for so long a time, my penis would be constantly erect and beckoning my attention which I struggled to ignore. Eventually it would get to the point where I could not resist and a mere two or three strokes would set off a tremendous explosion of semen, whereupon I would experience damaging feelings of guilt for touching myself in that manner. This was damaging both spiritually and emotionally - though it should not have been. With proper understanding, what I should have done was masturbate much more frequently so that I could concentrate my thoughts on more productive things and get on with life without the self-torment brought on by the debilitating feelings of guilt. The result of masturbation should properly be a feeling of relief that allows thoughts to be deflected away from the sexual and into more productive channels. As to the frequency of masturbation, certainly over-indulgence can be spiritually - and probably mentally and physically debilitating. From research that has been done on the subject, it appears that a beneficial frequency for a young man or woman would be to masturbate between 5 and 10 times per week. A beneficial and healthy number of ejaculations or orgasms for an older man or woman appears to be from 2 to 6 times per week. Also, in order to achieve sexual satisfaction for both people in a marriage relationship, it may even be necessary for either the man or woman to supplement their sexual life with masturbation in order to maintain a healthy and loving relationship. I hope this helps some of you out there to put masturbation in its proper perspective. God has given us this valuable tool of masturbation. Each of us needs to learn how to use it properly and to enjoy it as God intended.

Masterbation is the most natural thing in the world next to sex and breathing. To punish someone for this is the biggest crime imanigable. If you are in a marriage to someone who locks you up for this, divorce them. A chastity belt against your will must be a crime right? I don't know, but it is defently inhumane. If God didn't want us to it, it would have been writen in plain terms. It has been shown that masterbation is 100% healthy. It can lower the chance of Prostate problems, it is the only way to not get pregnat or an STD.
