If you do not lust while masterbating, I feel it is not sinning. I have given this much thought. God gave us the gift of children,in order to preserve this gift a man would need to masterbate to release all of the old sperm to replenish it with new sperm.

Well from what I understand I think the (christian) church thinks masturbation is wrong. My father is a pastor so I know this. However this doesn't stop me form masturbation. I taught myself to masturbate... I haven't found anything in the bible that suggests masturbation is wrong. I've tried to stop various times. I don't know if its religiously wrong, but I believe that if you do stuff which you think is wrong and you're not sure if it's wrong, it's a sin because its wrong in your heart. I don't think I can stop masturbating--it's a full blown habit! As a Catholic, I deal with it by going to Confession. I once was told by a priest in Confesssion that since it had only been 3 days since my last confession and I was confessing masturbation that he couldn't forgive me my sins. I promptly walked out of that confessional, crossed the church and went to another confessional on the other side of the church, confessed the same sins and received absolution. I am not sure even the priests know how serious this aciton is--I know that there is a lot of guilt connected with masturbation but only becuase the church says so. As a single man with gay desires I consider masturbation a lesser evil than sex with another man.

Those the believe masturbating is fine might this just be the devil trying to trick you. As a christian I feel that there are many passages in the bible that show it as a sin. Matthew 5:27 Any one who looks at a woman lustfully has already commited adultery with her in his heart. It is the thought behind it that makes it wrong, if you could think of astro physics whilst masturbating fine but I cant! However this does not make it easy to stop,I am currently 18 and masturbated since I was 11 and find it very hard to stop the most I have lasted is a week. Also remember no sin is mortal as christ died to forgive us. If you need help from God pray for it and ask your christian friends to pray for you, ask them to ask you the hard questions of what you have been up 2 frequently. You firstly need to admit you have a problem. SO many churches dont talk about this at all! Even many christian leaders have this problem so you are not alone. Try to distract yourself from masturbating e.g. watch telly talk to ur friend on the phone and keep off this site as this cannot help you it will only be a temptation.

I'm a Christian male, have given up premarital sex due to my beliefs, so of course had a dilemma regarding masturbation. I guy has to have some outlet, right? I had always heard that masturbation was a sin, but when I looked at various passages in Scripture, I never found anything at all about masturbation (the story of Onan is not really about masturbation, but his refusal to do God's will). Curious, really - after all, the Bible mentions many specific sexual acts (fornication, adultery, incest, bestiality, etc), most of which are much less common than masturbation, so it seems odd that God would "forget" to mention something so universal. I can only conclude that masturbation itself is not forbidden, although using certain fanatasies apparently are. I believe it's possible to masturbate guilt-free by avoiding fantasy & instead concentrating on your own sensations & enjoying the wonderful gift of sexual pleasure we were given.

For the flesh is against the spirit in its desire, and the spirit against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that the very things that you would like to do you do not do…..Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, idolatry…” Galatians 5: 16-19 So what is this uncleanness that Paul describes as a work of the flesh. It can be demonstrated that this includes masturbation. Consider Leviticus chapter 15. There God states that a man who has an ‘emission of semen’ is to wash his garments and is to be considered unclean for 24 hours, in the same way that a woman having her menstruation was to remain in an unclean state in God’s eyes for 7 days. Now this emission of semen is prima facie a noctural emission, (a wet dream), which is a natural occurrence for a single man refraining from immorality and masturbation. This law to the Israelites also included an emission of semen during intercourse with a wife (see Insight Volume 1 “Clean,Cleanness” p. 479). It is also interesting to note that during a military expedition, the Israelite men were obliged to refrain from having intercourse with their wives, otherwise they would have become ceremonially unclean. This would have obviously also meant that such Israelite men were to completely refrain from masturbation, for the same reason. This was a ‘ceremonial’ type of uncleanness, and while Christians are no longer under the Mosaic Law code, there are strong principles here that carry over for a Christian. It is quite apparent that if an Israelite man were to habitually masturbate, he would be constantly in an unclean state. This law given by God to the Israelite nation demonstrates that in God’s eyes masturbation is an unclean and defiling practice. The Insight Volume p. 479 has the question: Why were such normal, proper things such as menstruation, sexual intercourse between married persons, and childbirth viewed in the Law as making one “unclean”?. The answer given helps us gain the mind of God on the matter of masturbation. The Insight volume brings out that these laws raised the most intimate relations of marriage to the level of sanctity, teaching both mates self-control, a high regard for the reproductive organs, and respect for the sacredness of life and blood…..the Law’s requirements pertaining to the functions of the reproductive organs taught men and women self-discipline, restraint of passions, and respect for God’s means of propagation. A masturbator fails in all these things and shows disrespect for his divine procreative powers. The aforesaid scriptures in Galatians also highlight how if one is truly being led by God’s holy spirit they will have the ability to refrain from masturbation. Paul said that if a Christian keeps ‘walking by the spirit’ he will carry out no fleshly desire at all. One who is addicted to masturbation is walking contrary to the spirit and is opposed to it. He will be trapped in a vicious cycle of resisting the spirit and being enslaved to the passions and addictions of his body. If such a one makes a persistant effort to restrain himself and gain mastery over his flesh then he will gain a greater share of the holy spirit, until a point is reach where he will have ‘impaled’ those fleshly desires entirely and sin is no longer master in his body. “On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Moreover, those who belong to Christ Jesus impaled the flesh together with its passions and desires.” Galatians 6: 22-24 Clearly, a person indulging in masturbation is not showing goodness, neither in his efforts to remain clean before God, nor is that one exercising self-control. These scriptures show that masturbation is an evidence of a lack of self-control and hence a lack of God’s spirit being active in a person’s life. One who masturbates is grieving the working of the holy spirit in his life and will accordingly not display the other fruitages of the holy spirit. “Further, the unmarried woman, and the virgin, is anxious for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in her body and in her spirit…” 1 Corinthians 7: 34 From this scripture we discern that a Christian in the unmarried state should be concerned to be ‘holy’ in their body. Masturbation is an unclean and most unholy addiction, and one cannot be at all holy in their body if they are indulging in it. They are unable to present their body to God as a holy sacrifice to him and grieve the working of the holy spirit as a result. As the holy spirit is not operating on them as fully as it should because of their indulgence in such a chronic work of the flesh, such a person will fail to mature as a Christian if they persist in this practice. “For this is what God wills, the sanctifying of you, that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you should know how to get possession of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in covetous sexual appetite such also those nations have which do not know God…For God called us, not with allowance for uncleanness, but in connection with sanctification. So, then, the man that shows disregard is disregarding, not man, but God, who puts his holy spirit in you.” 1 Thessalonians 4: 3-8 These scriptures are a powerful indictment against masturbation. God expects a single Christian to gain mastery over their sexual appetites, not consistently indulge them in either fornication or the ‘uncleanness’ of masturbation. A masturbator is usually enslaved to a covetous and wanton sexual appetite and makes no effort to ‘get possession’ of his body with a view to purifying himself and being in a sanctified state before God. Often a masturbator is addicted to pornography; they go hand in hand. Such a person often ‘covets’ or craves pornography to help fuel their sexual addiction and appetite so they can indulge in their unclean habit. This is quite clearly showing ‘covetousness’ and is a form of idolatry, ie, craving something and allowing it to gain such a mastery over us that we feel powerless to resist. Such a one enters into a state of disregarding God, who wants to put his holy spirit in us, as the scripture says. So it goes that a masturbator cannot receive God’s true blessing. God does not bless and give his holy spirit to this disregarding him. A masturbator is also inclined to rationalize matters, telling himself that it’s not such a big deal and God will forgive him, and anyway everyone is masturbating. As the apostle Paul brings out, God has made no such allowance for Christians. It is God’s ‘will’ as the apostle brings out, that we learn and strive to master our bodies and purify them from defiling unclean sexual practices such as masturbation. If we treat such matters lightly, as the nations do, we are not living in accord with God’s will and God has no time for someone ‘disregarding’ him so. In summary, Christian’s must be clean. A single Christian, male or female, but especially male (because of the wanton wasting of his vital reproductive seed) who indulges in masturbation will not reach a state of cleanness in God’s eyes. Of course Christ’s ransom sacrifice can wash such a one clean and he can have his sins forgiven, but the fact remains that it is God’s will for him to get proper possession of his reproductive organ in sanctification, presenting his body without any defilement of flesh or spirit, and with no allowance for sexual appetite, which is covetousness or idolatry as long as he remains unmarried. As long as he fails to gain a mastery over his sexual impulses (see also 1 Tim 5: 11), he will be denied a proper flow of the holy spirit and is showing ‘disregard’ for God.

I personally, don't think it SHOULD affect it, as it's your own business, and no one needs to know what you do. However, that doesn't prevent the fact that it does. I know people who are like afraid to even TALK about masturbation, let alone do it. It's a normal urge, being a sexual human being, especially a teenager after puberty. But, that's just my view.

My wife and I are both Christians .. New Age. We use to be troubled a bit with the religious aspects of masturbation, feeling that it was not normal, and all sex should be between man and wife. We found a group of friends in a non'denominational church that is very liberal. We feel very comfortable masturbating, as we know it is a normal expression of sexual release. Our religious beliefs are changing, somewhere towards agnosticism. We feel that proof of God etc should have happened before now, and we entertain the possibility that we all die and that's that. I don't really know what is up with this whole masturbation thing. I think it must be like a drug, where you try to give it up for a while and then just keep thinking about it forever, it seems, until you give in to the temptation. I know every guy gets a hard-on every once and a while, and masturbation is a way to relieve your pressures and relax (in a sense). But isn't that what drugs do as well? They get you addicted b/c it feels good and it supposedly helps you relax, but I would rather be really horny than be addicted to something like jacking off. And I personally know that it is really hard to give it up. I'm trying to, but I gave in about a week ago, so now I have to start over, but I once heard of you give it up for two weeks, you eventually stop; well I'm trying!
