I've been a born again christian most of my life. When I was a teen I wanted to see what the bible said about sex and nudity. With a scripture concordance, I found out that God said not to have sex outside of marriage and only with a woman. As for nudity, God said not to look at a women's nakedness unless she is your wife. But what about masturebating? The only thing God siad about masturebating was in Genesis 38:9-10. This vurse was about a guy who didn't want his wife to be-with-child, so he masturebated and aloud his semen fall on the gound. God was mad, because he wanted the man's wife to have a child. This verse dousn't tell us that God is againts masturebating. It tells us that god gets mad when people don't do, what they are created to do. (Have children) So I believe it's safe to say, God is not agents masturbating.

I`m Catholic. From what I understand the Church feels it is a sin to masterbate. ( a mortal sin) The guilt this haunts me daily. I`m married but on occasion the feeling over comes me and I releave myself. At 43, I have had problems with erectile disfuntion and depression. My doctor has prescribed me high doses of testosterone and arimadex in order to increase my sexual drive. Without these meds the levita doesn`t help with erections. The testosterone has helped with both the E.D. and the depression. But now I have to struggle with a increased sex drive with a wife of 22 years and who is 5 years older. She can care less about sex, therefore I find it nesscessary to occasionally masterbate in order to release tension. Then I live with the guilt of sin. I go to Mass daily. There are days I struggle with this im my mind. Do I go to cummunion or not? A close friend of mind is a Priest. He is a little more liberal about the subject. But others say I am commiting a mortal sin by taking communion. It seems to me that God loves and forgives all who sin. I would`nt think God would want me to live in agony like I am. How can It be so wrong? I thought that a mortal sin had to be premeditated and some how affect the community. This whole subject has led me into depression and worry. Is this what God wishes for us?To do what is natural for man is a major sin? I pray that this struggle leaves me. The Catholic faith is wonderful but it also can lead to guilt and a mind trip for men. WHY? We are only men.

I believe that sex is a choice a man must make on his own. I am Catholic myself, and I do not believe that masturbation even a venial sin, let alone a mortal sin. Many people here have points...A mortal sin is defined as an extreme wrongdoing that affects many people...How can masturbation affect many people? Also, God is very forgiving and if it were a sin, he'd forgive you anyway (and if you sinned unknowingly, he'd let you know somehow). I believe that God only spoke against the one man in Genesis because that the man was supposed (nearly destined) to have a child with his wife, and instead, chose to "sew his seed upon the ground" (masturbate) instead of have a child. I do believe THAT is wrong, but that doesn't mean masturbation is wrong. I don't see the problem with masturbating. I just dont. It doesn't hurt anyone.--God, as it even says in the Bible, gives us the freedom to control what we do and think. There may be times when this goes out of hand, but masturbation? What Catholic would think of a silly idea such as it being a mortal sin? It's not like it's a thing that the devil does and only does. It's not like Jesus or Muhammad or Abraham hasn't done it (but we'll probably never know). Therefore, to this date, I believe that masturbation is not sinful. Anyone who has the evidence to prove me wrong, by all means, please do.

religion has alot to say about alot of things but as far as im aware it says nothing about masturbation. I have studied the bible in some detail and i have came to the conclution that as it was written 400yrs after the death of christ and by people who claim to be interperating events as they happened and the so called authorities in these matters have banned the texts discovered from the actual time of christ and thought to be the work of christ himself because they undermine christianity as an institutionalised religion and enforce it more as an individualised religion. That the bible itself is flawed in many ways and should be used as a guide line to further progress our sociaty and not as a book of rules which should be unquestionable as it is now being used by some people in certain countries in this world.

I don't necessarily think that it is wrong, I do it all the time, personally. However, I think if you think EXTREMELY dirty thoughts while you're jacking off, it might be a sin. I once heard of a preacher who told his congregation to think of Jesus when they masturbate, a good idea, as long as you aren't gay or anything. Just something to think about.

Someone said they were told to think about Jesus when they masturbate, as a means of putting them off. While this has the right affect most times, I don't like to involve Jesus even in my mind with something that leaves me feeling bad, but web sites showing same sex acts, work just the same most times. I have come across an excellent book though which I can reccomend to any male who is really serious about ending masturbation. It's called "Every man's battle" written by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker.
