Am I the only person in Earth who has had bad consequences on his life due to addiction to masturbation? I began masturbating from a very young age and two things developed simultaneously, first, the objectification of women and an instant concept of women's worth depending on their appearance. The second a compulsive addiction that has created much havoc in my ability to concentrate, to carry through assignments, and to work through problems that require mental endurance on my own... as soon as the going get tough or frustrating my mind goes into sexual fantasizing and if given the chance I masturbate. I feel despondent and out of power after I masturbate and deeply inside there is shame, disgust, and self hatred. The biggest damage that I did by not addressing my sexual addiction to masturbation was in the sexual life of my marriage. I was married to a lovely beautiful woman, but soon into the first year my fantasy world took over and, like so many, many, many marriages our sex life became dysfunctional. We were not even in our third year of being together when sex was something we did two or three times a month. We both suffered tremendously. She felt that she was not wanted anymore and I could not understand how I could be in love with someone I had no sexual desire for. Surely, from time to time the relationship would re-kindle, but it lost ground. I became heavily addicted to alcohol and drugs and then I got sober. The last five years of my marriage I was sober, but I could not help myself with my masturabtion obsession... I visited the internet frequently, videos, etc... I was caught a couple of times and we did not know how to handle it... We were buying into the new conventional wisdom that says "It's OK"... but at least in my case, it had a huge prize tag. My marriage ended and most of it had to do with the puzzling fact that even though I had desire for every single attractive woman in Earth, I would rather not have sex than to engage my wife. It is really clear to me that I have a sick distorted view of sexuality and women... it is also clear to me that this viewpoint is the result of pornography and fantasy. This last two I have began to be aware of since I began to attend meetings of Sexual Recovery Anonymous. I don't know what the rewards of not masturbating in my life will be, but I do know that all my sexual trysts had a toll. Maybe we can do better than to buy into the billion dollar Pornography Industry Mentality that women are mere sexual objects and men walking wallets.
